Daniel Ruo Chen (16) is a junior at the Special Music School in New York, concentrating in composition. His practice centers on narrative and emotional clarity through music—developing ideas that speak beyond notation alone and connect with listeners in concert and collaborative settings.

Alongside music, he studies technology’s role in society and how software, data, and digital tools address practical problems. Dance and travel complement that outlook: dance as disciplined physical expression, and travel as exposure to new cultural and intellectual contexts.

He plans to study business marketing and information systems in college, combining creative strategy with technical fluency to connect audiences with products, ideas, and communities in measurable, ethical ways.
